a proud moment
I heard ringing. It was like watching a truncated movie clip gradually swimming into focus. Time was quarter to twelve in the afternoon and I was managing to sleep late with the summer sun streaming on my face, amidst all the babble of morning noise. I clasped the emerging cell, pressed it against the side of my face where I hoped my ear was and croaked.
From the other side, an unfamiliar male voice floated out. The call came from an unlisted number. Not being in the chipper mood to scream blues, I got ready to hang up, taking it to be one of those prank calls that’s been all the rage these days. But the voice sounded like it meant business and it spoke in English.
Here I must mention that I was crazy sleepy and unlike you prodigies out there, I’m surprisingly inarticulate when I’m on the said crazy-sleepy mode.
“I’m from the Phone Company. [something I didn’t catch] Are you Mahreen?”
“Uh.. yes?”
“Is so-and-so-and-so-and-so-and-so your address?”
I barely heard anything after “is”.
“Y-yea, thad’s righ.”
Wait, did I win something that’s going to be sent to my address?
“And so-and-so-and-so your home telephone number?”
“Yeea..”
Whatever..
“What are you doing?”
“I.. uh.. I’m sleeping.”
This a survey of what people do at 11:45 am?
“No I meant, what do you, do you work or are you a student?”
“Oh that.. I’m a student.”
“Which school do you go to?”
Wasn’t there a rule that says, don’t give out your personal information to strangers? Am I experiencing an identity theft? A stalker got his hands on said telephone company’s subscribers list? One of my friends playing an elaborate prank on me? Naw.. Everything’s really normal. It sounds strange because I’m sleepy. Just answer his questions and get it over with.
“It’s X and I go to college.. I’m sowry.. Who’s this ‘gain?”
“I’m from the Y Phone Service and I’m verifying your SIM information.”
What’s SIM information? And is this happening to everybody? Mental note: find out when awake.
I drawl, “oh…”
“So what are you doing?”
[pause]“Excuse me???”

Huh...u n00bs missing the point down here. I suspect it is one of those damned admirers. And she being soo innocent (and usually dumb) didn't get the whole idea behind this and the man jus had to give himself up!
